From Taraz......
We just received this email from our contact in Taraz. She had this to say about taking the orphans to the toy store:
“It went really well. We were able to take 72 children (almost exactly half) shopping. For the most part they really enjoyed it. One boy went through the whole store buying things that were about 100 Tenge or less (notebooks, rulers, markers, drawing paper, pens, etc). He probably ended up with about 40 items - we had to make up some extra labels for him. ☺
I got to take two little girls shopping. I walked with them through the clothes (which they said they wanted) to the stuffed animals (which they loved) and finally to the doll aisle. They both ended up choosing a 1 1/2 foot doll in a pink dress. They proudly carried their doll to the front of the store where we put a label on each one with their names and then they put their dolls in the cart after a few pictures. It was funny to watch how big their eyes got when they first saw the dolls. One of the two little girls had been at the orphanage for less than one week. This was her first experience doing anything with us and she was a bit scared at first. It was fun that she had something special happen during her first week at Ulan.
We have about 75 children left. Ten of these children are in the youngest children's group (preschool), so we will choose the gifts for them. About 15 were in the hospital. We will probably take one more trip to the store and then just purchase gifts for any children that are remaining. We are in the process now of getting the gifts wrapped so that we will be ready when it is time to give them out. Thanks so much (to you and your sponsors) for making this possible. The kids are having a great time. One of the girls said "so this is what it means to go shopping - I didn't know because I never went shopping before."
Isn't it amazing that giving a little provides a whole lot! Thank you once again to everyone who donated this year! You made it a success and brought many many smiles to those children who so desperately needed them!
We would also like to thank the following families for the donations we received this week:
Angie Frakes (WA)
The Reinoehl/Comporato Family (IL)
The Blackburn Family (AL)
The Kudwa Family (MI)
Remember that we are collecting underwear and cloth diapers for the month of December.

Great news from Taraz!
Here is part of an email we received from our contact in Taraz!
"We are in the process of planning the shopping trip. It's going to take a bit of planning to pull off taking all of the kids to the store. I spoke with the vice director giving her a heads up last week. She seemed to be concerned that some of the kids wouldn't be able to handle picking out their own gifts. Today we went and spoke with the manager at the store and he is open to us coming. We will talk to the vice director more on Thursday and try to encourage her that it will be a good learning experience for them (how to behave in a store, how to make decisions, how to operate in a budget, etc). We are hoping to take all but a couple groups of the youngest children to the store and allow the kids to pick out their own gifts. For those that don't get to go, we will have their caregivers help choose gifts for them. Each child will be able to spend 2000 T. We will also probably purchase some candy and possibly some fruit for each child above the 2000 T to give them with their gifts.
We are going to take shifts of kids to the store, one or two groups at a time. We will give them 30 minutes to make their selections. We will place a label on the gift they choose and then place it into carts. At the end of the day (hopefully after about 6 shifts of children) we will check out all the gifts, take them back to the office, spend time wrapping the gifts, and deliver them around New Years. It should be lots of fun. We will work on getting pictures to send back to you ... we may have a problem getting pictures in the store itself (since they usually don't allow them), but we will try to convince them to make an exception for us. I will let you know how things go as we continue in the process."

Great news!
Today we received word that Two Hearts is now a 501 (c) 3 non profit agency! All monetary donations are tax deductible! We are so excited and pray this will increase our support of the children in Kazakhstan.
We also learned that each sponsored child will be taken to the toy store to purchase a toy for themselves! Imagine the looks of excitement these children will have when they learn they will be going to a toy store! Hardly do they get to leave the orphanage, their lives are the same day after day.
So far we have 31 sponsored orphans! Please consider sponsoring an orphan and making their lives a little happier this New Year!
Thank you to The DeSantis Family (RI), The Woods Family (CA) and The Elrod Family (IL) for your donations this week.

Sponsor an orphan!
Believe it or not, the holiday season is fast approaching. This year, we are giving you the chance to truly make a difference in the life of an orphan in Kazakhstan. We have been blessed with the opportunity to provide each child at the Ulan Orphanage in Taraz with a special gift of their own for the New Year holiday.
There are 160 kids, ages 5-16, living at this children's home. Your $15 donation would sponsor 1 child and provide them with a great gift! Two Hearts will make sure that each child receives a gift! To save on shipping costs and time, all gifts will be purchased in Kazakhstan.
Any extra donations provided will go towards purchasing bicycles and roller blades for the children.

Giving back
A couple of weeks ago we sent a 40 lb box of donations with the Serra Family to Kostanai, Kazakhstan. Papa Serra was traveling back for court and graciously offered to bring along some donations. Here is part of what Susan had to say about giving back:
"The head nurse, accountant, the head teacher were present, along with us and Tatiana. Tatiana explained about what Two Hearts for Hope was, and how much we all love the children of Kazakhstan. They were SO excited! Stacy also sent us a check for $150 for formula and bottles. It was really wonderful to be able to present this to them. THANK YOU AGAIN KIM AND STACY! I am excited for this to be our family charity when we get home to keep raising money for these adorable children!"
Isn't it wonderful to see how your donations are helping the children?! If you would like to take along a donation box please contact us.
Please don't forget about our raffle.

Thank you!
This month we are raising money to send to Kazakhstan for food and formula. Those of us who have been there know the desperate need facing the baby homes. They lack nutritious, sustaining food and often have barely enough for each child. Please help us fill up the children's hungry stomachs! You can find the donation link to the left.
Thank you to The Struck Family (FL), The Kudwa Family (MI), Angie Frakes (WA), and The Beasley Family (NC) for their generosity towards our goal this month.
We would also like to thank the following families for bringing a donation box with them on their upcoming trip to Kazakhstan: The Fiorentio Family, The Stuckmeyer Family and The Gruber Family. Children in Pavlodar, Karaganda, and Almaty City will be receiving much needed supplies in the upcoming months.
Finally, we would once again like to thank Southern Heights Community Church of Lebanon, MO for helping us raise over $1000 for the children and for the great new toys!
On a "greener" note - Here at Two Hearts we are constantly trying to do our part to stay green and help the environment. From now on when sending in a donation, please include your email address so we can send your thank you note via email rather then "snail mail." This will save the trees! Thanks for your cooperation.

BIG NEWS!
Wow! We are so overwhelmed with emotion right now!
Michelle Reed, a fellow Kaz mom and board member, nominated Two Hearts for the Angels in Adoption Award handed out by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI). Each year, Members of Congress are given the opportunity to select individuals, families or organizations from their home state, who have demonstrated a commitment to improving the lives of children in need of permanent, loving homes.
Each Congressperson chooses one individual or organization to honor. Senator Claire McCaskill of Missouri has chosen to honor US because of our dedication to adoption and positive child welfare practices.
We will be traveling to Washington DC in September to received our award on the White House lawn and to attend the tenth annual Angels in Adoption gala. This event boasts more Congressional participation than any child welfare event in the nation, with 193 members of Congress participating and more than 850 guests in attendance at the gala last year.
Along with the 2008 Angels in Adoption selected from all fifty states and the District of Columbia, National Angels in Adoption™ are awarded for their dedication to orphans and foster children on a broader, national scale. Some of the previous National Angels have included First Lady Laura Bush, Victoria Rowell, Muhammad Ali, Dave Thomas, Steven Curtis Chapman, and Bruce Willis.
Can you believe it? We are just blown away by this! Who would have thought in January when we started that we would be NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED just a few months later!
Thank you to Michelle for nominating us! Thank you to Senator McCaskill for honoring us with this wonderful award. Thank you for all your donations to make this possible! It is a great privilege to be helping the children in Kazakhstan.

Here is what our profile says:
"Two Hearts for Hope, Stacy Segebarth & Kimberly Prud’homme
Senator Claire McCaskill
Senator McCaskill is thrilled to select Two Hearts for Hope as her 2008 Angel in Adoption. Two Hearts for Hope was started in January 2008 by two women, Kim and Stacy, who traveled to Kazakhstan in 2007 to adopt their own children. Going through the adoption process from April to June 2007 made Kim and Stacy aware of the environment that these orphans reside in. Less than perfect conditions with not enough supplies plague these orphanages and make these children’s lives very hard. After seeing these conditions first-hand and how many children are still awaiting adoption in Kazakhstan, Kim and Stacy decided to create Two Hearts for Hope. The organization intends to make Kazak orphans lives better while they wait for a caring family to adopt them. Every month Two Hearts for Hope takes donations for items ranging from shoes and socks, to hygiene products, to toys. These donations are boxed up and carried to Kazakhstan by other families looking to adopt a child. While there, the boxes are dropped off to various orphanages for the children. The supplies enrich the lives of these orphans and help to add joy and hope to them as they wait to be adopted. Kim and Stacy started this organization all on their own and it has grown immensely to help make 1,000s of Kazak orphans lives better. Two Hearts for Hope continues to accept donations for Kazak orphans and is currently planning a trip to Kazakhstan to personally deliver these presents to the orphans. Stacy and Kim’s devotion and dedication for helping Kazak orphans makes them an excellent choice for Missouri’s Angel of Adoption."

This week....
We want to thank The Willis Family (WA), The Keilin family (OH) and The Sykora Family (CT) for their donations.
We want to give a special recognition to Inga Bass for creating a new logo for us. She has donated her time to make it and we appreciate it so much! She has also volunteered to create a new web site when we are ready to go .com . Thank you Inga!!
We also want to say thank you to Southern Heights Christian Church of Lebanon MO for collecting money and toys for the children of Kazakhstan. This week they are having a Vacation Bible School and the mission of the week is Two Hearts for Hope!
Yesterday they brought in over 50 toys and everyday the children are learning about life in orphanages. They are asking lots of questions and we think they are starting to understand why it is important for us to take care of the children left behind. It is so exciting to see little minds learn the importance of orphan care and adoption!

Mission: Kazakhstan
One of the ideas we have wanted to do since starting Two Hearts has been to put together a mission trip to Kazakhstan. We are in the very beginning stages of planning a trip to Kazakhstan for early spring or next fall. We have to wait for our 501 (c) 3 to come in before we can officially begin to purchase tickets and visas. We have been told our application can take anywhere from 2 months to a year and a half. Please pray it is sooner rather than later.
We do know that we will be traveling to the Karakastek orphanage outside of Almaty for about 10 days. Adults and children over 10 are welcome to come along.
If you are interested in joining us on our trip please email us. We are beginning by taking names of those interested and will keep you updated on all developments.
hopeforkazorphans@aol.com
Thank you this week to the following families for your donations: The Tennen Family (AZ), Mary McNab (MN), The Bilbro Family (TN), The Milton Family (MO) and The Hochstetler Family (IN).

This week we want say Thank You to...
The children in Karakastek receiving their new things!
The Glidewell Family (MO), The Baker Family (MO), The Milton Family (MO), The Strieby Family (CA), The Dewitt Family (OH), The Marcacci Family (CA), and The Kudwa Family (MI). Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts, you are all special angels in the lives of the children.
We want to especially recognize Cameron Dewitt (OH). He honored his Daddy's birthday by buying art supplies for the orphans of Kazakhstan! Thank you Cameron (Brent and Buffy)for being so thoughtful and thinking about the children left behind!
Today we (Kim and I) meet with Liz from Hadassah's Hope to see how their service trip was and to receive all of the pictures of the children receiving their "gifts"! Elizabeth did tell me that they are waiting on the orphanage director's to get back to them on how they want to spend the money we sent them. ($5000.00). I can't wait to see how it gets used. She said Taraz is wanting some dental equipment and Karakastek will let them know soon. What a blessing to be able to give the kids "a little bit of hope".
We want you all to know that we think that the most important thing for the children is to find them a loving home with a mommy and daddy to love them and hold them close. You have to be strong to adopt. When you go over there and look at these children and see that where there should be light there is dark. Where they should be laughing they are crying. Underfed and without proper medicine. Wearing the same clothes day after day. When you are outside playing and the toddlers are running up to you asking for hugs and calling you mom and dad all you can do is pray for strength not to cry. No child deserves this.
No child should be without a family to love them and take all their cares away. They are so young and already so burdened by life. We know that it is not possible for everyone to adopt a child or for all of the children to be adopted but we must listen as God whispers his plan and follow our hearts. Listen and act. Act and you can change lives forever.
Our "mission" is to help give hope to the children that are left behind but our main prayer and goal is that we show people how adoption can not only change the child's life but how it will forever change yours! We hope that our story reaches just one family and makes the difference for one more child! If we don't try to save the children, who will?? Enjoy this poem!

The Starfish Poem
Once upon a time there was a wise man
who used to go to the ocean
to do his writing.
He had a habit of walking
on the beach
before he began his work.
One day he was walking along
the shore.
As he looked down the beach,
he saw a human
figure moving like a dancer.
He smiled to himself to think
of someone who would
dance to the day.
So he began to walk faster
to catch up.
As he got closer, he saw
that it was a young man
and the young man wasn't dancing,
but instead he was reaching
down to the shore,
picking up something
and very gently throwing it
into the ocean.
As he got closer he called out,
"Good morning! What are you doing?"
The young man paused,
looked up and replied,
"Throwing starfish in the ocean."
"I guess I should have asked,
why are you throwing starfish in the ocean?"
"The sun is up and the tide is going out.
And if I don't throw them in they'll die."
"But, young man, don't you realize that
there are miles and miles of beach
and starfish all along it.
You can't possibly make a difference!"
The young man listened politely.
Then bent down, picked up another starfish
and threw it into the sea,
past the breaking waves and said-
"It made a difference for that one."

This is what we call a little bit of Hope....
This is in Taraz at the children's home for mostly special needs children. They received our shoes today and as you can see by the smiles on their faces, it was a fabulous day! If any of you gave shoes, you can now see the pay off of the time you spent on picking them out and getting them to us! Thank you all for making these children smile! They will be going to Karakastek (Almaty region) on Friday to give out shoes there too!
It is so wonderful to see the children that are benefiting from your generosity! These are the days that make it all worth it! These are the days we know why we were called to Kazakhstan to find our precious children, not only to bring them home to be with us, but to help the children that were left behind to have hope for a brighter future!
We are so blessed to have people that believe in Two Hearts, people that trust us and people that are willing to take time out of their busy schedules and money out of their own pockets to support us, thank you all!
Thank you this week to The Marcacci Family (CA), The Bell Family (TN), The DeSantis Family (RI), The Dean Family (CT), The Woods Family (CA), The Kucinskas Family (CT) and Nancy's Place (MO).
Also thank you to The Ruopoli Family (SC) going to Aktobe, The Carr Family (TX) going to Almaty City BH#2 and The Abdurakhmanov Family (NY) going to Almaty City CH for volunteering to take a box of donations to Kazakhstan on their upcoming trips!

Great new ideas!
We had our first Board of Directors meeting last night and here are two great new ideas we came up with:
We have decided to start a "Raffle of the month" to raise money for our continued efforts to help the orphans in Kazakhstan. Each month we will pick a fun item and raffle it right here. We had dad in mind for our first item and will be raffling off a $100 gift certificate to Bass Pro Shops ( if you don't have a Bass Pro near you, they can use the gift card online at basspro.com). Father's Day will be here before you know it! What a perfect way to say "I love you dad" while helping the children of Kazakshtan.
To purchase a raffle ticket use the Paypal link on our sidebar to the left. Tickets will be $5 for 1 entry and you have until June 9th to purchase. There is no limit to the amount of tickets you can purchase. The drawing will be held on June 10th and we will overnight the gift certificate. Once we receive your donation we will send you a confirmation.
Would you like to take a box of donations with you? Two Hearts would like to supply you with a box of new and gently used items to donate to your child's baby home. As you get closer to traveling you will be in whirlwind as you try to pack everything you need. Let us relieve some of your burden so you have one less thing to think about. Please let us know if you would like a box and we will fill it with great items for the children left behind. What a great way to save on adoption costs!
A very special thank you to Lisa Marcacci and her church family in California for the beautiful hand knit hats. We received 116 of these gorgeous hats in the mail last week and we are so excited for the children. What a great blessing these hats will be to them.

Thank you this week to...
The Keogh Family (Canada), The Woods Family (CA), The Baker Family (MO), The Lane Family (CT), The Segebarth Family (MO) and a special thank you to Nancy's Place (MO). Nancy's Place is a consignment clothing shop here in Lebanon that sells gently used and new children's items. They keep stuff for 2 months and then they donate everything that doesn't sell to a local charity. I visited with them last week and they said that we could come every Monday to pick out what we want before she donates the items. Thank you Shirlene.
We did our first presentation on Two Hearts this morning at church. Thank you to everybody at Southern Heights Christian Church (Lebanon, MO) for getting involved. We gave out about 25 quarter tubes and several people took a donation of the month list!

Would you go the quarter mile for an orphan?
Hadassah’s Hope has started the Quarter Mile program to help offset the costs of adoption as well as bless the children in Kazakhstan.
Did you know that if you took a quarter and stacked it end to end for a mile it would be over $16,000? That would be an amazing way to offset the cost of 10 international adoptions along with supporting the orphans.
We are asking that you join us in partnering with them to fill at least 1 tube. Pass the word along to your family, friends, churches or businesses.
We will send you a tube to fill with quarters. This will equal about $15. Think of the difference you could make if you just looked under your sofa or in your car for quarters!
For more information and to get your tube(s) please email us at hope4kazorphans@aol.com . If you ordered a cookbook already and want a quarter tube, please let us know we and will ship them together to save on extra shipping costs.
Thank you this week to The Rauch Family (CT), The Montoro Family (CT), The Woods Family (CA), The Cohen Family (CT), and The Bilbro Family (TN).

The boxes are 62” if you add length width and height. (Which makes them ready to go on the airplane) Thank you, thank you, and thank you for all your help. Everything was great! First shipment DELIVERED!
We just wanted to let everybody know that your first shipment of donations has made it to Hadassah's Hope. Liz was so excited yesterday and could not believe the amount of stuff we had collected. She was very grateful and very excited about being able to deliver everything to Kazakhstan personally!! They will be delivering it all in June. She said that she would take a video and pictures of the children receiving their things. She also said that these things would not be community property, the children will actually have something to call their own. They have a coordinator in country that finds out the number if children and their ages/shoe sizes so they can bring the correct sizes to the baby and children's homes. She also said that they will give them extra shoes for the new children that will come to the homes. This is all because of you guys. We could not be what we are without all of your support! Can you imagine the smiles that we will get to see. She also encouraged us to come on a mission trip with them. She said that if you have never experienced the baby homes while not adopting, you need to. It is totally different on the other side of the coin. They actually let you love on the kids and sleep at the baby homes. (not sure about that)You are a welcomed guest when you are there to help. If anyone is interested in the mission trip that they are taking this year email us and we will get you the info. We are going on the next trip for sure!!!
We also wanted to say Thanks to everyone that has bought a cookbook and sent in their sleepers! It is a huge blessing to be able to help the children in Kazakhstan that are waiting for their forever families!! We have sold over 100 cookbooks and have received numerous sleepers and pj's along with many other things! If you haven't pre-ordered your cookbook please do so. It turned out beautifully. For those of you that think it is Kazakh food, it is not. They don't sell enough Horse meat in America to make Kazakh dishes. :-) just kidding. It is a cookbook that was made with love from families who have Kazakh children or that are in the process to adopt a child from Kazakhstan. There were over 70 families that participated. It has over 200 pages and 298 recipes. ALL of the money collected from the sale of the cookbooks will go directly to the orphans of Kazakhstan. We had a very generous person pay for the cost of the books. We will have a vote for everybody that buys one on where they want there money spent. (i.e-playground, new cribs/beds, toys, etc).
Please consider purchasing a cookbook or sending in some donations of the month. We have set up a different donation for every month, all important to the well-being of the children. Please be sure to look at the list on the left hand side of this page. Thank you again and remember together we can make a difference!! Email us at hope4kazorphans@aol.com you have any questions!

Pre-orders
We finally have the Paypal link set up for pre-orders. We will accept pre-orders through April 19, 2008. Our cookbook is scheduled to print on April 24.

We are also accepting check, cash or money order made out to Two Hearts For Hope and sent to our address (located on the left).

A Sneak Peek
Yesterday I received a phone call from the publishing company asking to send a proof of our cookbook cover to us. I was so excited, she faxed it right away and there were no mistakes. Here is the cover (It will be in color):
We should have the actual cookbook proof in 2-3 weeks!
Thank you to the following people and their families for the donations this week: Kristan (Florida), Teresa (Alabama), Angie (Washington), Erin (Missouri) and Jessica (Georgia).

are the moments when you have done things for others." - Henry Drummond

Cookbook submitted
Yesterday I sent the cookbook order form and all the text we want included to the publisher via Fed Ex. At the box I gave the envelope a little pat and wished it safe travels to Nebraska. We had to type all the recipes into this online software program and submit that too. That took a long time, especially proofing it, but last night I hit "submit" so there is no turning back! Not sure when we will get the proof back. The company says it takes 35-40 working days to complete the order, so maybe 28-30 days? Who knows! We are super excited to see the finished product.
This week we would like to say thank you to Michelle (Illinois), Mary (Minnesota), The Bennett Family (Virginia), Catalina (New York), Beth (Connecticut) and The Sale Family (Ohio) for their great donations. As of today we have; 288 pairs of shoes, 408 pairs of socks, 19 pairs of slippers, 68 sleepers/pajamas, 5 snowsuits, 9 coats, 10 tights and 13 hats!
We are continuously moved by your outpouring of love!

Gracious gifts
We just wanted to give everybody an update on the donations. We have now receieved 194 pairs of shoes and we don't even know how many pairs of socks. Before we ship them we will get you the exact total. This week we received boxes from Gretchen (Tennessee), Susan (Florida) and Greta (Florida). Also, we have already received 39 packages of sleepers and pajamas for next month's donation. The outpouring of love is unbelievable. We thank you all so much for helping to change the lives of these children!
Another blessing we received this week is that someone has graciously offered to donate the money that it costs for us to print the cookbooks. So now you know that 100% of the money we raise will go to the orphans of Kazakhstan. Wow, God is so good!!
